The History of Cafe Rio

From a humble dream to a Las Vegas landmark — every chapter of our story has been written with passion, perseverance, and a love of great food.

2012

The First Flame

Cafe Rio opens its doors on South Eastern Avenue in Las Vegas. Founded by the Montoya family with just twelve tables and a menu of eight signature dishes, the first night was sold out within two hours of opening.

2014

First Recognition

Cafe Rio receives its first "Best New Restaurant" award from the Las Vegas Culinary Association. The accolade brings new guests and inspires the team to push creative boundaries further.

2016

Expansion & Evolution

We expand our dining room to seat 60 guests and introduce our seasonal tasting menu and private dining experiences. Our catering service is launched, bringing the Cafe Rio experience to events across Nevada.

2018

Farm-to-Table Commitment

Cafe Rio formalizes partnerships with six local Nevada farms and three regional artisan producers, cementing our commitment to fresh, traceable, and sustainable sourcing in every dish we prepare.

2020

Resilience & Community

During challenging times, Cafe Rio pivots to serve the community — providing over 2,000 meals to frontline workers, launching a community meal program, and supporting local vendors through the crisis.

2022

A Decade of Excellence

Celebrating ten years, Cafe Rio unveils a full restaurant renovation, a redesigned menu from Executive Chef Marco Reyes, and is honored with the Nevada Restaurateurs Association "Excellence in Dining" award.

2024

Digital & Delivery Launch

Cafe Rio launches online ordering, a loyalty program, and premium delivery service — bringing our handcrafted cuisine directly to guests throughout the Las Vegas Valley with the same care and quality as dine-in.

Sofia Montoya

Founder & General Manager

Sofia's vision gave Cafe Rio its soul. A hospitality veteran with a business degree and an inherited love of cooking, she oversees every detail to ensure each guest leaves with a lasting memory.

James Carter

Head Pastry Chef

James transforms simple ingredients into edible art. Trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, his dessert creations have become the most talked-about finale to any Cafe Rio dining experience.

Amara Osei

Head Sommelier & Bar Director

Amara curates our exceptional wine list and craft cocktail program. With certifications from the Court of Master Sommeliers, she pairs each dish with the perfect liquid complement.
